Annihilation Defensive Guide 2012

Post by S_hift »

Lets get familiar with the main loadout for your builder. Try to equip yourself with the following.

after you select the builder armor remove plasma disc and shotgun ammunition because you wont be using those weapons, unless of course you're going to use those weapons.

-Bulder-
RailGun
Rocket Launcher
Pitchfork
Builder RepairGun

There are a few things you should refrain from doing while taking the great responsibility in endowing yourself as the base defender.

1. If someone is doing the job already. Find another job to pursue. Once that job is done find another one to do.

2. Do not deploy Nuclear Turrets anywhere near deployable objects. They can be used to the enemies advantage to destroy the objects around them. Do not deploy Missile turrets indoors. They don't work indoors and are a hazard to teammates. Refrain from setting anything that will impair or damage the equipment, players and deployables around you.

3. Use common sense. If there are nukes getting inside. Do not set doors. Simply leave the base and kill those nuke spamming.Force Field Doors and Large Force Field Doors will only hinder your teams response to attacks. It clogs up the hallways and corridors that the teams commonly walk through. Use Force Field Doors on the flag stand to protect it from Necromancers
. Do not set doors in front of Laser Turrets they will only shoot the doors down overtime, or an enemy will just use the Pitchfork to sink those laser boxes using the Force Field Door as a shield.
4. Set a Portable Generator early in the round.

5. utilize base structures. Parts of the base will add a strategic advantage to the deployment of certain turrets.

6. Do not farm outside of the base. While mildly effective in reducing number of players on the field. You'll only be adding to their personal score list once they easily figure out where those turrets are placed. Defense is meant to keep the enemy out. You will only be wasting turrets that should be used to defend objectives.

7. Try not to deploy too many Nuero Bashers these turrets cause your team to take longer to kill a mid air enemy. While this may help keep the enemy away it hinders your teams ability to kill the enemy. Nuero bashers also make it easier for the enemy to spot potential turret locations. As their long trails easily show were other hidden Laser Turrets are.

8. Avoid deploying a Base Cloaking Device inside of a base These are more ideal for using with an Air Base or a Teleport Pad

9. Keep the Teleport Pad away from enemy objectives. Don't deploy it in a main hallway or inside your own flag room. That will just make a tunnel for Chameleon Assassins.

10. When you are done with a Mobile Inventory Station. Destroy it unless its not in the way.

11. No matter what stick to the job, never give up. It will pay off in the end. In partaking the job of base defender, you assume the risk and responsibility of being the sole protector of the base. It is your duty to repair damaged teammates, sensors, deployables, ships, and objectives. Do not leave the base until you feel satisfied with the condition of the base and status of the team. This is a code bound by honor and integrity. Destroy for the flag. Die for your flag.

Thanks for taking the time to do this Cypher! Many complain about newbs not knowing the ropes but few take the time to educate them on the uses of deployables and strategies. GREAT JOB :!: Ditto for the Off. Guide :!: These should be perhaps locked/stickied on the main but others may want to add more tips, info and strats... Lets face it we're down to a limited amount of mostly core players and vets and we need to encourage new players to learn and come back. Coming into a new game with quite a few of you good players can be a pretty daunting task. Think about it, back when we all started there was plenty of new players to play against and the elite players were scattered about. Now they come into this server/mod and may have a little trouble just learning because they're basically cannon fodder. Anyhow I appreciate the time you've taken to infuse a little enthusiasm for keeping and building player numbers. The ole Sarge thinks you deserve a cigar !

sarcasm noted lol, its never too late brother. People are picking up the game every day. Doesn't hurt to share the knowledge and love of the game.

Vehicle and Airbase Etiquette for Noobs

TEAMMATES / PASSENGERS:
Don't jump into a teammate's vehicle if he's not expecting you.
The pilot can't tell if you are a friend or foe, and may destroy the vehicle with you in it just to be sure.

Never jump out of a vehicle when it is flying upwards.
The vehicle will collide with you and be damaged or destroyed... possibly killing you and everyone else in it.

Helpful Tip for Pilots: If an enemy jumps in your vehicle, you can self-destruct it by doing exactly this. If you have 100% health, you will survive the explosion.

Don't steal a teammate's bombers...especially on high altitude maps. It takes a lot of time and effort to bring them up from a ground airbase, and it's annoying as hell when someone steals it while it's being repaired.

Don't assume a vehicle is abandonded unless it's been sitting in the same spot for awhile. One of my favorite places to repair a vehicle is from underneath it where I can't be seen by enemies. Look first to be sure.

Don't stand on or throw weapons, deployables or mines on the airpad. This prevents vehicles from being spawned.

NEVER SHOOT AT A TEAMMATE'S VEHICLE! They are damaged just as much by friendly fire as an enemy's. This is considered TKing and you could be kicked for it.

If you have a repair pack or gun, use it on the vehicle frequently or constantly, especially after any collision or if you're under fire. This will keep you and your pilot airborne a lot longer.

Be your pilot's eyes. A pilot's field of vision is extremely limited. As a passenger you can help him spot or avoid enemies simply by facing toward them or pointing your weapon or laser where they are. The pilot can see where you're looking and adjust his flight path accordingly. This is especially useful to the pilot when maneuvering while dogfighting enemy vehicles.

PILOTS:
Don't sit on the airpad waiting for passengers. Someone else may be waiting to buy their own vehicle. If there's room, move ahead off the airpad and wait there.

Deployable Transports have limited numbers. Don't just leave them laying everywhere or fly them off the map. If you see one that's obviously not being used, destroy it.

Helpful Tip: Use your vehicle to draw enemy turret fire away from your attacking teammates.
Your vehicle can withstand a lot more damage than a player, and the turret's locations will be given away. This will also buy your teammates enough time to dismantle the enemy's defenses.

AIR BASES:
Don't clog up an airbase's interior space with excessive blastwalls, forcefields or deployables.
Make sure your deployables aren't blocking access to the vehicle station.

It is generally a bad idea to spawn an airbase near enemy teritory.
Enemies can attack it a lot faster than you can defend it, and ultimately it will be useless.
Deploying an airbase as near to your base or flag as possible provides an additional platform for base/flag defenses and is easier to defend aganst enemies.
Try to deploy airbases in a low spot and with the door facing away from enemies.

JAILED TRANSPORTS:
I place transports in our jails in order to trap enemy players. If they have heavy armor, they will be be a passenger in the transport and will be unable to move or get out....even when released from jail.

I place transports in enemy jails in order to allow our players in light armor to escape.
This is done from the pilot seat by flying straight up to the ceiling and then jumping through it.
Heavies can then be rescued by opening the jail, jumping back in the pilot seat and flying them out (and back to base).

This isn't a perfect system, sometimes enemies escape and teammates get trapped, but it is funny. :taunt:

Helpful Tip: Having a transport pack is like having a "get out of jail free" card.
Just deploy it in the jail, fly up to the ceiling and jump out.
Open the jail, jump back in the transport and fly home.

Ways to correctly utilize an Air Base

- Make sure your Air Base is deployed outside of your primary base Large Pulse Sensor.
Reason:You'll give your team a strategic advantage with the increased awareness of the Medium Pulse Sensor. Sometimes you spawn outside and you want to pick up where you left off. Maybe you want somewhere to keep your teams Teleport Pad.

- Be sure to apply Force Fields to the outside of your Air Base windows.
Reason:Some mods of Annihilation have a destroyable Air Base. The damage it accepts is registered through the windows. Also enough layers will protect the Mobile Inventory stations from plasma rifles. Assuming that no one is using cheats, the layers of Force Fields will also keep enemies from seeing you inside the Air Base. Blastwalls are too big and obtrusive to use inside of an airbase. You should know this.

- DO's and DONT's of the Air Base

------------------------------------------------------------Do--------------------------------------------------------
Repair the radar frequently. You can throw the repair kit when you are near any base object. (Press H)

Be courteous of other players. The Air Base entrance is small keep it single file.

If you see someone setting up defense try to cover them. When they are doing this the Air Base becomes the enemies objective.

Repair friendly APC's

------------------------------------------------------------Don't------------------------------------------------------
Use the Air Base to block Jail Towers. Not only is this is a waste of an Air Base, but it is considered glitching and if an admin feels it is necessary they will punish you.

Block the entrance.

Block the Vehicle Pad.

Block others deployable shapes.

Repair glitch.

Clutter the interior.

I would disagree with this. If your airbase is too far from your base, enemies will easily over-run it and render the pulse sensor useless.

In my experience this has never been an issue. My airbases have been under heavy enemy fire and I have never had one destroyed.
Also enough layers will protect the Mobile Inventory stations from plasma rifles.
Also not an issue. Because the airpad is a favorite enemy target, I always carry a repair pack which can quickly and easily be utilized on a destroyed station. This is a minor inconvenience at worst... hardly worth wasting your time and your team's limited supply of forcefields on.

Again I disagree. One blastwall will keep peeping toms from watching you undress (as if that's a big problem) and it's not "obtrusive" if you place it against the windows. I have rarely found this to be a necessary procedure.
Repair the radar frequently. You can throw the repair kit when you are near any base object. (Press H)
I would also add that the pulse sensor can be repaired from inside the airbase. Just aim your repair gun at the center of the ceiling.

How could this be done? :hscratch: We are talking about Annihilation here, right?
------------------------------------------------------------Don't------------------------------------------------------
Repair glitch.
Not an issue. The "repair glitch" problem was never purposely caused by players. It was a bug in the mod and has been fixed.
