Tribes 1 Legendz

Might as well post it.

During its short life 3dfx made an API called Glide which took the world by storm, revolutionizing 3d gaming.
So as Tribes was advertised as a Glide compatible game, I decided to give it a try.

There were a few bugs.







An explosion seemed to set it off balance....
Fixed it self up after going back into menu.
And this.



Well these are the cards. To show you how much of a beast this card is, a comparison.

GTX 260 Top. It was dead till I fixed it.
n finally the 3dfx Voodoo 5500 Bot
Does Run Tribes 1.4, UI disappears in game, no chat either( a good thing?)
Currently too unstable with tribes to be considered playable


Most current stable build running with Tribes 1.11
2x 3dfx Voodoo 2-1000 in SLI + a Voodoo 3-3000

Overall it more or less does look like OpenGL but still seems unique in its own way.

Just some extra stuff....

They are still worth something, it would be worth checking that old pc.
Voodoo 3 boxed est: 100AUD
Voodoo 2 as a set for SLI (unboxed): 80AUD
Voodoo 5500 retailed back in 2000 for 680AUD, still sold on eBay for about 80AUD

Oh yeah check out some of their commercials, Nvidia couldn't even come close to these.




Last but not least.


The Voodoo 5 6000 which 4 VSA-100 Cores; double that of the v5500. 3dfx made a few prototypes of these but shortly went bankrupt, now worth 2.5k each. Was supposed to retail at 800USD upon release.
And yeah, not mine but it would run tribes ;D

thats just that map. someone exceeded the max shapes on that map. sadly tribes doesn't cut corners to save stress unlike some games.

the same bug appears in software mode. I would consider 3dfx a mix of software and openGL rendering. at least visually.

look at the openGL:: prefernces and see if you can replace them with 3dfx and see whatyou get

That last pic happened a lot on my 3dfx card. I haven't seen that assortment of colors since!

Just to let you guys know. The 3dfx Voodoo card is the best card for Tribes 1 gaming. Period. Fuck your 1.4 fuck all ur bases because if I had a old comp with a 3dfx Voodoo card I would own all of you in about 2 seconds.
