yea vinyls still sound top quality. i probably have a collection of 50 or so good vinyls. they were always better than the tapes that came after.

this is one that my kid loves on vinyl.

I went over to a girl's place one night, and she tried to convince me that vinyl sounds Vetter than mp3.

I literally could not hear anything but static coming from her speakers.

she either had a bad player / tip, or the vinyls she owned were scratched up. i wouldnt go as far as to say they're better than tech / software now days, but the quality level is not bad at all with a proper setup.

She probably had the wrong setup. I run a NAD Turntable $600:

With a NAD C-356BEE 2 Channel Amp $800:

http://nadelectronics.com/products/hifi ... -Amplifier

And a pair of Magnepan 3.7i speakers, cost's around $6K for a pair:

Just the speakers alone sound incredible. I don't need a 5.1 or 7.1 setup due to the way you can set these speakers up for low's and high's.

I also run a TEAC A1500 Reel-to-Reel.

This setup sounds better than MP3 or CD quality, but I do run a NAD CD player also $300:

Now, they do make a Turntable that cost's around $4K, with a setup of some Diamond Glass Speakers that cost's $54K a pair. I've never seen or heard this setup, but I've been told it's better than anything you will ever hear, ever.

Yeah, she had a single wooden box speaker (about as tall as my lower leg) under her desk with minuscule speaker wires running to a cabinet style record player.

By cabinet style, I mean, the record player was built into the top of a wooden box the size of a small filing cabinet, which had no doors, and contained maybe a couple dozen records. I imagine it had a glass door at one point, but it probably broke and was not replaced.

I've never heard a record player that didn't sound like a pair of corduroys, before, but normally, there's at least some music behind the static... Not this time... This time I heard no music at all. But she swore it was playing music...

Granted, my ears suck balls... I typically hear refrigerator compressors in the next room louder than my sister nagging me... There are definitely pitches that I cannot hear, anymore... If you play a sliding scale on theremin, it sounds to me like it takes a breath and skips a high pitched frequency... I've seen my nieces screaming and felt the wind coming out of their mouths, but heard nothing.

So, maybe the whole song was comprised of pitches that I'm deaf to... I dunno.

Hell, I'm surprised I'm not deaf after all the car audio competitive cars that I sat in, built, judged, and tuned from 1988 till around 1997.

LOL...well, I probably tested out more hard T lines and optical lines than seen internet. The bad type of optical testing is when you have a problem being reported with an overseas optical line. These lines run in the oceans and have to be repaired via a sub with deep sea gear and equipment, or a mini-sub with this equipment on it already. Fixing is the easy part, but tracing down where the issue is, is the hard part.
