Just came across this while surfing online. For those in Seattle or the upcoming cities, this could be a job opportunity or even a business opportunity with Amazon Prime:

Yes, the Uber of parcel delivery...
We have enough problems with online shopping fraud and parcel theft, lets add un-vetted delivery drivers to the mix!
A couple weeks ago, a member of the Ida Lewis Yacht Club, in my home town of Newport, RI, hailed an Uber cab from the club house.
A few minutes later, a curvaceous black woman came driving down the pier in a purple PT Cruiser and got stuck.
The pier is not designed for cars... It's a pedestrian bridge. They don't even allow bicycle riders on the bridge, because they have a tendency to scuff up the hand rails.
She ripped off both of her mirrors before deciding that she needed to stop.
The driver had to scoot over to the passenger seat, and the club manager climbed in the window, and backed the car all the way back to the road.
And think it's a good idea to let people like that deliver your mail?
PS: Crow used to own a purple PT cruiser!

It might have helped if you read the full article. They are doing extensive background checks before you get the job.
And yes, I do want my package to be delivered to my person. If you live out of the city limits in a rural area on 8 1/2 acres and in front of your residence is a housing community, and the PO cannot deliver your package, Amazon let's them leave it at your mailbox without a signature. This is when the package will get stolen or messed with. I've had many stolen in the past. Some not cheap. I sent a legal statement to Amazon, which is one of the reason's they are doing this. I'm tired of getting the tracking number and having to call the PO and tell them to hold the package for personal pick-up and then having to drive to the other side of the city to the airport to pick up any packages.
This can also create a business opportunity to someone, in which they can contract with Amazon to start a service within a city that does not have this, and hire drivers for delivery, in which they can either use their own vehicles or the person starting the business can start a fleet of low budget cars for the deliveries.
This creates new job's. Not only for the delivery drivers, but then you have office employees, management, and a dispatcher.
BUT.....the story you relayed is pretty hilarious, and no, I would hope they screen the people for this position a bit better, but at least Amazon is trying to remedy an ongoing issue they have had for many years. I have to give them credit for trying.

I admit, I didn't read the article. I saw a blurb about it on the news, and thought it was the whole story.
I agree that the current parcel delivery services suck balls.
I live in an apartment complex, and I never know where they'll leave anything I order, online.
Sometimes, they ring the doorbell, but so infrequently that I don't know what the sound means.
Sometimes, they knock, but they never stick around long enough for me to get off the toilet and answer the door.
Sometimes, the outside door is unlocked, and they leave the package right in front of my door, but sometimes they also leave it on the stairs, at the bottom landing, or outside in a puddle.
Sometimes they leave it with the apartment management office, and other times they leave a note that says, "You should have bought it at Wal-Mart and picked it up yourself, but now you'll have to drive yourself to Warwick, loser!
