AMD CPU's are fine with nVidia GPU's.
The low end nVidia card is just fine for a power efficient heater for winter.
I am definitely waiting on AMDs Zen cpu's before doing a full new build, finally ditching my old intel.
just for fun I recently built a i7 desktop for under 200 bucks using used parts
GTX 680 $5
Intel Core i7-860 with Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P total of $5
Antec 1000W PSU $20
No shortcuts on ram, 1600mhz corsair 2x4gb $69
Coolmaster wave master Aluminum case $20
2TB HDD $50
$5 Sata DVD drive
$174 at the end of the day.
Everything bought at the local tip shop cept the ram.

When I was in college, I bought the cheapest computer parts I could find. AMD and ATI were the cheapest at the time, and I came to realize they were cheaper for a reason.
Now, I splurge for Intel and nVidia.
Also, HDD's are yesteryear's technology. You'll be amazed at the difference if you boot from and store your games on an SSD, instead.
In Tribes, alone, you'll notice a difference simply when it needs to read/write to a file. Kigen's mod used to log every time someone failed to deploy a builder beacon because he thought there might be some kind of cheating going on there. So if you got in builder armor and stared at the sky, then spammed "b", the whole server would lag out. If he had hosted it with an SSD instead of an HDD, no one would have felt any lag from this. Likewise, recording stats or demos definitely slows down the game when running on an HDD, but not on an SSD. Windows boot time goes from minutes to milliseconds (with windows 8 or 10).
I dunno what kind of budget you're working with, but I highly recommend an SSD over an HDD.
You can still get a massive HDD if you want, but don't make it the boot drive.

Yeah, I have to agree with you Perr. I moved my games from an internal HD to an internal SD and speed wise, it has improved, but you can still get a decent SATA III HD to work well depending on what you do with it.

I guess it comes down to what's more important... Price/Gig or speed...
Personally, I chose both. My computer has a 128 GB SSD, and a 3 TB HDD. But I regret buying the HDD, because I've stopped hoarding data, and haven't stored a single file on the HDD, and haven't even come close to filling the SSD.
But if you're still pirating movies and shit, maybe you need more storage space than me... I dunno.

Increase it.
Or, you could probably buy a used PC...
Take this ad for example:
https://houston.craigslist.org/sys/5418751829.html
No price mentioned. Probably selling their world of aircraft addicted son's porn machine for bottom dollar.
I bought a surface pro 2 for $275 from some college kid who probably thought he was gonna get enough Christmas money to buy a surface pro 4.
Actually, judging by his attire, and the pre-installed software, he was probably planning to buy a Mac book or an ipad.
