i'm using radeon hd 7850 and it makes high frequency noise when tribes screen shows loading, alias screen, or main screen.. except gaming screen.
i figured it's because my vga makes too many frame per sec when conditions like those.
Ofcourse i can turn on Vsync to prevent it, but it limits FPS when i'm actually playing game too. (as you know, 1.40 Vsync REALLY SUCKS)
mmmmm.. how do i handle it?? any ideas?
is there any way to limit FPS while i'm not playing tribes?

not sure if you could do that. maybe, if vsync toggles with a true / false on the spot, and you could link it to like a menu keybind or something. would be a hassle though to code.

if you're using a good graphics card just keep vsync on. The human eye can only process 110 frames per second.
There is really no need to "optimize" client settings on Tribes with modern graphics.
Your card will push out probalby 200 FPS with vsync on.
Also things will appear smoother when you try to snipe people flying horizontally.
also this.

also a pro gfx tip -
in your gfx card control panel go to Manage 3D settings
click the Program Settings tab
Make a profile for tribes and set anisotropic filter to 16x
This gets rid of the blurriness that newer gfx cards cause in tribes

Yes try that ^ also try turning off data execution prevention for tribes.exe and also try setting the affinity to only use one of your processors for tribes.exe just hit ctrl alt delete to open your task manager while you have tribes running, find the process and right click it and click set affinity and then uncheck all but one core. Vsync generally makes games seems to stutter and not be all that smooth in my experience I've honestly never turned it on for a game and then ended up leaving it set on.
Honestly it shouldn't be making that noise with default settings. I've played with multiple radeon and nvidia cards and tribes configs and I've never had that. It almost sounds like you need to check your bios and fiddle with the fan speeds. Could be several different things.
