builder idea

Post by S_hift »

if the player has less than 10 thousand kills could we just disable their ability to ever use a pitchfork and access to deployables?

its getting really annoying trying to play a serious game with some random noob deploying blastwalls everywere. or stacking loads of bwalls all over the flag with no means of being able to cap, especially after they figure how to weld shit.

Bad idea. How are they ever suppose to learn the armor and set D if you remove their ability to do it? You could just spend the time and show them how to do it. Or just do it S_hift style: Call them a fucking newb and vote to kick them.

Terrible idea. I don't even have 2k kills and I use the builder's pitchfork to remove enemy defenses, along with moving mine so I can cap the damn flag. I always put ours back, mind you (it's usually just to move a crate or platform).

Dark I felt like that when I first came back, I never really played any of the mods back in the day, mostly base. I almost always stuck with HO too, just my preference. So when I came back I found the deployables more interesting and quite a bit more varied in their attributes. Looking back... I took quite a bit of guff when I was trying to learn more about the deployables, pissed a few other players off I'm sure but unintentionally. Like me, some others don't have all that much time to study the game in depth for hours on end. I've even asked for a how to on deployables way back. Shift and some others do spend time to help others on here by explaining things, credit where it's due.

The point I'd like to make is that since that time I too have experienced how rookie farmers can really mess with your game, and you see it fairly often they come in can't keep up with the action and getting laid waste to with the PB so they try their hand at farming and it very often results in pissing off a more polished player(s). It might be a thought to have a break in period for farming somehow, or at least suggest it only be attempted after hours of observation. Might have saved me a headache or two had I realized how much I might have been interfering with others at the time. I still think all the time you all spend on mapping and coding and models and skins. The very best thing that could be done to help bring more players to the field would be a well written "How to Tribe" guide. A small website perhaps on the current server (or a sticky post here) would provide a place where new players could find the information to help them really learn the game and avoid incidents where regular players are perturbed and less inclined to really help. It's a great mod but it's really tough on NEWBS as Shift would say. We could have Fish type it up and put his restless hand syndrome to good use.

Honestly, it's very unlikely for someone to leave the game and read a tutorial on a website. Your best bet for any kind of tutorial or tips would be in-game.

I would really like to see anything placed or moved within a certain distance of the flag instantly go into mission cleanup and fade out with the exception of force field doors. Maybe add force field doors to the beacon inventories as well. Or make plasma floors act like force field doors too.

yea bad idea shift.

neat idea death.

and with deaths note on "shift style", maybe it's time to chill out and smell the roses. everyone starts somewhere. we need to help players understand the game, not scare them off. i honestly see new players more often than i would think, and when i do spot them, i try to help / communicate with them the best i can.

I think we should have a community vote that grants the ability to use pitchfork. Then have the voting system attached to in-game profiles. Make it a part of the tab menu in game so if you see someone fucking up with a pitchfork, you could down vote them. Take all uncertainty out of it and only the voted-in builders be able to use the p-fork
