As the new year approaches lets all reminisce on our past Tribes experience.
My first time playing tribes, I was 19 years old and I found the download on fileplanet.
I had a roomate at the time who played a lot of WoW. We hooked up an Ethernet cable to both our computers and played tribes. I LAN hosted a DM server and we played Blood runs cold. I'm not sure who won, I think he did but it was the most fun I ever had in a game.
After that I figured out how to get online, and I started playing in the SKB renegades server. I played that for about a year or so leaning most of my tribes time toward the Drunken Fools server ([df] clan).
There was a lot of drama about admin abuse so I started playing in the Land of oz servers. Where I first met wiseman and blaze. In fact {OZ} taught me most of what I know about Annihilation. Shortly a year after I joined OZ.
I later perused my own endeavors to conquer a myth known as AutoAim. I did indeed conquer the myth more ways than I would have imagined. I later proved to the more knowledgeable individuals that it was possible, however to get it working was impractical compared to the actual skill of a player.
Its been a wild ride so far but I've made it. Another good year in tribes without any incidence. Well except that time Bo'sdad banned me for calling him a noob
I'm glad Crow runs the server now and I have a big surprised for you guys...
Merry Christmas and Happy Tribing.

Re: Share your tribes experience.
I first found Tribes in either 98 or 99. I remember the moment fairly clearly actually, just not the exact year. It was during lunch period and we were allowed to use the computer lab during this time. A friend of mine at the time, Galen, was playing Tribes. It was Desert of Death, base of course. He was sniping people and getting sniped himself. I watched him play some more, maybe even for a few days, before playing it myself. I was hooked.
During weekends the school opened up the computer lab, for students to either finish school work if they didn't have a computer at home or just mess around on the internet. The awesome thing about Tribes was that there was no DRM. No CD keys. No authentication. No install limits. One CD was all that was needed for the entire computer lab. So that's pretty much how I spent that summer. Going up to the computer lab on weekends with my neighbor, installing Tribes on a crap load of computers and playing locally with several other people. Fun, fun times flying Scouts on Rollercoaster into the enemy solar panels (terrible panel placement, btw). I even remember playing one specific community map several times called Homeworld. I can't recall ever seeing this map come up in Annihilation for as long as I've played, but to be honest I'm not sure it'd play that well. Still, it was a fun map at the time.
Into the early 2000's I recieved an Xbox and I sort of put down T1 for a few years. Once the Xbox died out in 2005, and deciding not to continue my console career, I went back to Tribes that same year. I discovered the Paintball mod and was sucked back in. I played on the SKB Renegades server quite a bit as well after that, into 2008 or so I'd say. I miss that mod. I guess some admin drama caused them to bring down the server. Shame. After that I played Annihilation I think, then finally grew big enough balls to try out LT. That pretty much leads me to today, where Anni and LT are all I play because...well...that's all that's left.
I was quite interested in PlayTribes when it was announced in March 09 by InstantAction. At the time I had a fairly terrible PC. It had a graphics card from 1999, 512MB RAM, and ran Windows XP, so a rebirth of T1 was just what I was looking for. Unfortunately we all know how that ended up. Fortunately because I was quite active within the IA community and its CM, the company sent me a nice laptop in 2010 for absolutely nothing. They shutdown shortly after this. Despite being able to play a plethora of modern day shooters, I still come back to Tribes. If the day ever comes where I actually build a decent gaming rig, T1 will still be the first game I install probably.
I tried out T2 briefly, and sort of enjoyed aspects of it but ultimately wasn't interested. I gave Ascend a go from closed beta into late summer 2012, so about a year I'd say. I didn't play T1 during this because it's sort of hard for me to play both at the same time. The difference in movement and physics threw me off too much, and I chose Ascend because it was more active. I was also juggling with Legions. Like T2, a few things interested me but the F2P aspect and what came with it ultimately put me off. Not to mention it really didn't feel like Tribes at times, but everyone has their own opinion of what Tribes should be.

Yeah. Back then they really didn't give a crap what game you played so long as you were quiet. Tribes and UT2k4 were popular.
Re: Share your tribes experience.
Welll, in '98 my cousin and I went in together and bought this game, not knowing anything about it. I first played on a 233 MHz PII with 128 Mb RAM with 4 Mb onboard video memory running Windows '98 on a 28k dialup connection. Getting booted offline cause someone picked up the phone. Good times. I can only imagine now how obnoxious that would be now. There were over 1200+ servers then. Mostly played base, Hybrid, Renegades, and URVX. Though I've played almost every mod. As far as credit goes to the guys who helped me become a skilled player back in the day; that goes to Levotos, {NOC}kin_pin, Bugleboy[KGB], [FSB]deacon, number9, and a few other guys who's names I can't remember. As far as Anni goes, playing against S_hift and Crow who used to own my ass when I started this mod as well as learning the mod alongside rolo.

Re: Share your tribes experience.
hmmmm, mine isn't that long. I was at office depoet with my mom getting while she was getting some shit. I had already been a huge fan of fps game (goldeneye), and had pretty much owned all of the 100 people I played with on old school split screen lan :p. But yes I was the top goldeneye player of my block for years, so I wanted to try another fps game. This was probably 1999 btw. Anyways, I saw the case of this game, and it caught my interest, turned it around and it looked even cooler. Had a very goldeneye look to it unlike all the other games on the shelf, so I ask my mom if I could get it. To my surprise she said yes, I might have begged, I normally never got new shit, always hand me down stuff (even goldeneye was).
Anyways when I got home I installed it and booted it up. Didn't have online at this point, so I was stuck playing the training missions. They were cool to me at that time, and really did peak my interest. A few months later I talked my parents into getting dial up, and first thing I did with internet was login tribes. There were 2 servers I played in my first year of tribes. One was a base capture and hold server, which I became an admin in shortly after playing there for a few months (barrys world cap n hold). The other was a renegades bootcamp / duel server hosted by -|DF|- Lee, which I also became an admin in. I really liked to duel / shoot ducks / other custom things he had made in the server. I also loved to play Ant Hill CnH, so I spent most of my time doing this the first few years of tribes. Met a guy from nappy in the boot camp server called DaJ4ck3L (<< where i really got my current name from (this was 01/02) ), and we formed a clan called {IHOP} in nappy mod together. My brother was also in the clan with us. I was Storm and he was Trooper. We later split the clan into two different clans called -|X|- and -|MK|-, and hosted a custom edit of nappy mod for our server. Also played Shifter v1G with my mom in a clan called [FU!]. Yes my mom also got into the game for a while after watching me and my brother play it.
Later down the road I tried other mods such as VX because badapple had got me into it. Badapple lived down the road from me, and we had learned we both played the same game, so we played with each other a few times. He also had some other friends from our area that played VX too. Didn't play VX much though, as I was already hooked on nappy. Took a break, came back and played VX more. Badapple was still around and told me about S1 and how lots of the VX players were playing a mod called Annihilation now (This was in 05). I joined S1 and started in Annihilation. Lots of the VX players in anni had a falling out with leader DXSTRYR, so WICKED had left and started {OZ}, since most in S1 were old OZ members at that time (This was in 06). Been in {OZ} ever since then, and here I am now.
Also did a bit of smurfing in 05-07 and had joined |SKB| in Elite Renegades, |MX| for ModX, .:N|S:. for VX, ::RA:: for Nappy, a few others i forgot, and started playing Arghs duel in 08 sometimes instead of Annihilation. I had also joined [Bud] for a short while in Annihilation spawn mod.
PS: ok longer than i thought.

Re: Share your tribes experience.
The first time I played Tribes 1 I was at a coffee shop in the downtown of this little town I hail from. Starsiege: Tribes was installed on every computer at the coffee shop, and a lot of the local kids were playing it every time they would visit. My cousin invited me to join him while I was using MSN messenger(yup). I opened up Tribes, selected the same server he was in and joined. Now, after the server joining, it boiled down to this one activity...I stood on the fuckin' ground shooting discs and some other weapon at people flying above me. I didn't understand the concept of an FPS+Z, as my formal schooling was in Duke Nukem, Doom, and James Bond 007 shooter games. After getting wrought on whilst standing idly by on the ground by a bunch of seasoned players in that Shifter server, I made an oath to myself to never look that noobish ever again. Boy, did I have no idea what the next 12 years had in store for me. I stuck to Paintball servers for many years. From Approximately 2003-2009 all I did was win, win, win, no matter what. Then Paintball died. I had two options: learn base and give a fuck about LT, or join the awesome Annihilation community. I settled on Annihilation, changed my handle from +JetBlue+ to blankgirl and got to playing. I learned the weapons, then deployables, then gameplay shit. After less than a year on Anni mod, the (now) infamous Bo'sdad invited me to join <!> gang. As he explained, I would get pwned far less often by l337 haxors and also that <!> would have my back in any e-fight I found myself in. I caved and tagged up with the <!> in front of blankgirl. For the next 4-ish years, I marginally got better while being an active recruiter of new players and trying to spread the good word of the Tribes faith. This put me on the quick track to becoming a leader of the almighty <!>, where I now serve as king to most plebs and some drunks. The end.

Re: Share your tribes experience.
My Tribes experience could be made into a movie.
I was introduced to the game (when it first came out) by my brother, who had burned me a copy of it.
I played exclusively on HaVoC servers in a borg skin under the name "S']['U of Borg" (I stole the '][' from ']['ANGO).
I specialized in long distance mortar-spamming and manning assorted cloaked turrets from command stations. I SUCKED at flying vehicles.
When the HaVoC servers began to dwindle, I lost interest in the game and stopped playing for several years.
One day I was checking out a hard drive from one of my old computers and found Tribes installed on it. I clicked the exe to see if it still worked and was surprised to find there were still a few active servers, but no HaVoC
(uhh, Crow... why is the tag for that emoticon called "stu"???)
So I began to play around in Annihilation as S']['U. I soon discovered that the vehicles had been speeded up and began flying them just for fun. I found out quite by accident that you you could kill players by running them over. This had never occurred to me in HaVoC because the vehicles were too slow to even consider using them as weapons. I began to run people over just for the lulz and eventually became quite good at it. Someone (can't remember who) began calling me the "Death Pilot" and I adopted the name.
I soon began to annoy a few people with my unorthodox playing style and was being vote-kicked too often for no reason, so I sent an e-mail to Owner who gave me "untouchable" status. This lasted until the "Great Admin Clean-up" about a year later.
I became popular and well-known on BR server. I was even admitted to OZ clan without even trying-out.
(I was kicked out about a month later for killing a base-cloak as my teammate's requested.)
Around the same time, perrinoia began a smear campaign against me in the forum, claiming I was TKing and picking up teammates without their permission. The trolling and rep-bashing got way out of control and I was eventually banned from the forum because it was easier to get rid of the victim rather than ban all the attackers.
The harassment continued on the server where I was constantly being TKed and trolled by other players and abused and smurfed by certain BR Administrators until I was banned from the server for "raging" about it.
I was eventually able to prove that I was being smurfed and abused by Bongwater and was allowed back in the server after Bongwater's discommendation.
When I returned to the server, the Infamous Bo'sdad took over his "abuse duties".
Bo began harassing, admin abusing me and then lying about it. He also went out of his way to make sure that I had no access to the forum so I would have no way to refute his lies about me. (name, password and IP ban)
One day I noticed a new player called "Wig Bro" in the server. He was constantly asking stupid noob questions like "What button do I use to speak globally?" or "how do I deploy turrets?"
People were falling all over themselves to help him, ...then I saw his IP. IT WAS FISH!
I tried to warn the other players that it was only fish trolling, and I was told to shut up by Bo'sdad who swore to me that Wig Bro was NOT fish.
When fish's deception was exposed in the forum the next day, I went in the server and mocked Bo'sdum, saying "Tell me again who Wig Bro isn't". I was immediately banned for over a year and a half.
Other BR players and administrators realized that my ban was unfair and helped me to gain access to the server several times. Meanwhile, Bo'sdud made it his personal campaign to continually ban me on sight.
I began my own campaign to expose, mock and discredit him.
Someone finally came to their senses and removed Bo'sduh's admin, and I was finally allowed back in the server and the forums.
With Bo gone, the server and forum trolls no longer had anyone to back them, so the harassment and abuse eventually stopped.
I was able to regain my reputation and the respect of the community, and in a few short months I applied for and got a position as Public Administrator on BR server.
Contact me if anyone wants to write the screenplay.
I want Liam Neeson to play the part of S']['U.

Good to see you're still around and kicking S']['U. When you coming back? Miss having to dodge you or having air battles.
