Wait, so when Bilbo wears the ring he turns invisible, but when Sauron wears the ring he becomes visible?
What kind of creature is Sauron, anyway?
What super powers do the other rings grant?
Legolas is an asshole...
Re: Legolas is an asshole...
No power were granted.

Everything you need to know about the One Ring and it's powers is well explained in the Wiki article I linked in my last post.perrinoia wrote:Wait, so when Bilbo wears the ring he turns invisible, but when Sauron wears the ring he becomes visible?

Besides invisibility, the One Ring can prolong the bearer's lifespan, but at a cost. The quality of life goes down as you get older. Bilbo described it as feeling as if he'd been "spread too thin"
The ring can also change size. This is how it has some control over who possesses it, and why Frodo kept it on a chain.
Only an extremely disciplined mind would be able to utilize the Ring's full power, but because of it's evil nature they would eventually become corrupted by it and possibly become a Dark Lord themselves.
Sauron was a fallen spirit of the Maiar who helped to shape the world. Some of the Maiar eventually became the wizards, such as Gandolf and Saruman.perrinoia wrote:What kind of creature is Sauron, anyway?

Their power is less clear in the movies, as one one living being is shown having one. That would be Lady Galadriel.perrinoia wrote:What super powers do the other rings grant?
She was the bearer of Nenya, one of the three Elven rings and was considered the most beautiful and powerful of all the Elves. Nenya's power was preservation, protection, and concealment from evil. Galadriel used these powers to create and sustain Lothlórien.

Best actor in that trilogy was Smaug by far.

See, that's another reason I don't like the franchise...
My eyes glazed over on the second or third noun you posted. I don't know what those words represent, and I shouldn't have to google or wiki them since I've seen the entirety of the first movie, and most of the 2nd and third.
How is it that I've seen that much, yet still don't know what the heck is going on?
Because it's based on a massive collection of books, which had to be truncated to fit into a massively long series of movies, all for a genre which I don't care for in the first place.
You see, the parts that interest me are the super powers, and the various species, but what it's lacking to keep my attention is technology and nudity. Action scenes are cool too, but as I pointed out, that clip of Legolas taking down an elephant didn't impress me. It was just too fake.

You have to pay close attention... one of the reasons I recommend viewing with the close-captioning on.perrinoia wrote: I've seen the entirety of the first movie, and most of the 2nd and third.

Also, don't try to watch this if you're going to be distracted. Sometimes there is a lot of information being given to you in a short time (especially in the introduction), and if you miss even a few minutes you could miss something important.
I understand.perrinoia wrote:....all for a genre which I don't care for in the first place.
I have zero interest in movies with zombies, vampires or serial killers...
..but I respect that other people might like them and I don't trash these kinds of movies or try to dissuade others from watching them just because I don't care for them.

It depends on what you mean by horror movies. As for the hacker and slasher type of movies, NO, I don't watch them, unless they are a martial art type of movie which will have blood and sword cutting within the movie itself. Now, if it's an old classic horror movie, YES, I do watch them. So with that said, I have no "of today" type horror movies in my movie collection I've been collecting since 1981 or 82. As for what I do for Halloween. I definitely don't stay home and watch movies. I go out with friends, don't you?perrinoia wrote:You don't like horror movies? What the hell do you watch on Halloween?
Re: Legolas is an asshole...
I do both... Watch a horror flick with a bunch of friends, then go to the after party.
