After a storm o_O
Still live.
Road blocked by tree
Blocked by downed power lines.
Most of the bay was hit hard, power was out everywhere. Miraculously ours stayed up through that crazy weather but I'm guessing they may need to switch it off regardless for repair.
Wind gusts were up around 100-140kmph with heaps of rain to follow. Fallen trees have blocked main roads also.
Sydney is also being hit with major damage and flooding.
And I didn't have to go to work today =p

Re: my street
That's nothing.
When I was in college, we had an ice storm that was so bad, we went without power for 3 weeks.
The first day after the storm, I got in my car and headed to school, but there was a downed tree blocking the main exit of the neighborhood. I did a U-turn, and found a downed tree blocking the second closest exit... So I went to the third exit, which is completely on the wrong side of the neighborhood, and in a completely different town. I used my GPS to navigate to school, because I was unfamiliar with that town. I got about halfway there (it was an hour drive going that direction) and there was a tree about 3-4 foot in diameter, crushing a small car, surrounded by emergency crews with chainsaws and the jaws of life. I did another U-turn and went home, because there was no way I'd make it to school on time, and I knew there was nothing I could do for the people in that car, as they already had body bags set up for when they got those people out.
Day 2: It snowed on top of the ice. I got in my car and started heading to school. I pass an abandoned Jeep in a ditch before I even get out of my neighborhood. I did a U-turn and went back home, knowing that if the Jeep couldn't stay on the road, the Plymouth Voyager I was driving wouldn't either.
Luckily, our neighborhood had an indoor pool, with locker rooms and a backup generator powering the water heaters, so we were able to take hot showers there, and get plenty of exercise to entertain ourselves, since we had no TV or internet at home.
I can't remember what we ate, but I remember not opening the freezer until the power came back on (3 weeks later), and everything had thawed and spoiled.. It smelled like death.

Re: my street
Well we met the guy who was living in that apartment and he said the tree missed him by like a foot as it came down, so he was lucky.
Also sadly 4 Deaths in total from storm in NSW.
Also 2 cars have been reported to have been swept away with people in them.
and something like 1.3 billion in damages overall.
So it wasn't isolated to this area =p
Also I chose to list my generator for a quick sell xD

Damn, sorry to hear about the loses. Taiwan also had some loses with the 6.3 earthquake they had, but Japan was hit the hardest with a 6.6 to 7.7 earthquake, including the Tsunami. Death toll so far is 19,300.

Oh snap! I thought this was like an isolated tornado or something...{LS}RePublic wrote:Well we met the guy who was living in that apartment and he said the tree missed him by like a foot as it came down, so he was lucky.

Your storm trumps mine. We were well prepared for that ice storm. As far as I know, only the people in the small car died, and I don't remember how much the damages cost... Probably millions, but definitely not billions.
