Last summer for tribes?

Post by AnniDv6 »

Will tribes make it through one more summer? Every year the servers get a little more active during the summer. As a whole the game has been dead for a long time, but it does feel like we are approaching truly dead lately where you see ~5 players even on the weekends and very rarely see the 15-20+ nights. From occasional ~5's it's a really small jump to never having games with more than 3-5 people again. Will late 2015 be the real end of tribes?

I'm not part of this trend. I'm usually too busy in the summer time to play.

I tend to agree with Perr, spring/summer was the slow down for Tribes, IMHO. Winter (for me anyway - MidWest U.S.) was when I seem to see the most players. People are just getting outside now, it's that time of year, particularly this time of year when one hemisphere is getting their last blast of warmth and the other is warming up, the perfect storm so to speak Soon it will be cold in one and hot in the other and we'll see numbers again. I for one, am NOT done yet !

Seeing a dozen players or so recently, but yea, warm weather here in the USA does make it more difficult. Once the 'kids' get out of school, the servers will pick up again.

I really wish the Tribes name and brand would become free to use. We can get together and create a Tribes 1 clone with updated code and netcode in Unity3D or UE4 and get back to when there were always 24 or 32 playing on Anni NJ. The newer Tribes games are junk. Tribes 1 is so clearly the best its not even close.

Maybe a game just called Annihilation? Since Tribes is free are the assets free to use?

Personally for my vision of a newer Tribes game I wouldn't even upgrade the graphics or sound that much. Just fix the code so there are no connection problems, its easier and quicker to join, no glitches, and have the community be able to mod and create assets for use in the game.

HiRez Studios still owns the IP. Seeing as how they hated the tribes community so much that they shut down the official tribes ascend forums and completely stopped supporting the game they might actually be willing to sell the IP for fairly cheap. On the other hand they might be greedy bastards holding onto it only to cash in on tribes ascend 2 and support it for half a year and then move on to their next game..who knows.
