Why don't satellite companies offer satellite domes with integrated Wi-Fi hotspots?
You could plop them on the roof of your house, RV, or boat, with nothing but a power cord, and provide internet to all of your devices... They could even bundle them with HDMI sticks that work like wireless cable boxes.

Re: MIDAIR Kickstarter
They kind of already do offer that, they are called WISP. Wireless Internet Service Providers. Basically they connect a small satellite that receives a signal, or if you qualify, your home becomes a hub where they connect a small tower with multiple satellites to it to project multiple signals. The only problem, due to it being so new, they just started to figure out speed issues and it's basically for suburban areas with line of sight from cell towers. They use the existing fiber going to the cell towers with their own satellites and using radio frequencies transmit the information. Anything blocking the signal like trees affect the signal, and users living too close together can affect the signal. A company in Utah named Vivint was the first to offer 50 Mbps, but now they offer 100 Mbps, but here's the best thing, it's not just 100 Mbps down, but 100 Mbps up also, and it's for only $60 a month. They just expanded to El Paso, TX and are now in San Antonio, TX. Which beats cable, DSL, and is cheaper than a fiber connect. They require a 2 year contract, but early termination you have to pay $10 for every month that exists off the 2 year contract.

Re: MIDAIR Kickstarter
That's not bad, at all... But that's not satellite... That's terrestrial cellular, which only works in cell range.
I'm talking about these domes that are commonly seen on expensive yachts, and work anywhere in the world.
I understand that latency would be unbearable for gaming, but bandwidth could still be high enough for streaming, right?
PS: The home model would not require a dome, as it would not require actuators to keep the dish pointed above the equator.
Something like that would be worth $10/Gig to me... I'd be able to keep in contact with the rest of the world even when sailing out at sea, but would only be able to play competitive games like Tribes when I found Wi-Fi hotspots, in town.

Re: MIDAIR Kickstarter
I'm glad you pointed to the right "DOMES"
Re: MIDAIR Kickstarter
Yeah... I found that by google searching satellite dome, and it already had the red arrows... I thought it was funnier than a simple close-up of the dome itself, so that's the pick I chose.
PS: It drives me nuts when my passengers point at domes like that and ask me if it's a radar.
I should start telling them they're Daleks or something like that.

Re: MIDAIR (Tribes Inspired Game) Released, Now Free to Play
So an Update on Midair. It looks like they are now making a Midair C.E. (Community Edition) on Steam.
It looks to be the same game as the old Midair, but with upgrades. It's an entirely different product on Steam from the old Midair and right now they are in a closed beta and sometimes give away keys for the beta on their Discord.

The release date listed on Steam for Midair:CE is for this December 25th, 2020.

Midair CE is about bringing the best parts of Midair into better focus, and developing the features that were sorely missed. We are currently in closed beta
-Art in the game has received a complete overhaul. Weapons, character models, sounds, effects and maps have been re-imagined with a grittier, more realistic style.
-Progression has been removed in favor of granting everything you’ll need from the get-go.
-Game Modes Team Deathmatch and Arena have been revised, to favor a more pub friendly experience. LCTF is now CTF, as 'base' mode has been removed.
-Servers have been rebuilt on a steadier platform.
-New features like practice mode, adjustable team colors, quickplay, chaingun overheat, and combo nades.
- Overhauled UI, additional game modes (Duel, Team Rabbit), economy, skins, profile with stats, server rentals, and countless other small fixes and QoL changes are on the way!
