Perri I was looking Pick a part and for some reason it says my motherboard is not compatible with the case I bought. Are they full of shit? I hope so if not I'm sure I can make it fit lol.

So what do I need next? I've got GPU Case CPU Ram sticks, Power supply, SSD .... do I really need a CD case? I mean with USB sticks out now they seem somewhat obsolete what do you think?

Speed on RAM does have it's advantages. I prefer using more than one RAM stick, even if it costs a bit more, due to it's advantages in case something goes wrong later, that way you have a separate stick that can still be usable as a backup. I got rid of my internal hard drives in my MSI GT60 2PC Dominator laptop and am now using SSD's. I kept my DVD RW due to still having a large collection of DVD's and CD's. I have started to move a bunch over to SSD's and USB sticks, but even these go bad after awhile and you end up losing everything on them, due to them just being a microchip, so I am keeping my DVD's and CD's as hard backups. The stuff I move over I save to an external server I custom built. This allows me to just plug in a SSD or USB and re-copy what had on one that had gone bad.

I'm one that likes to lay on the bed when using my laptop, but even with the built-in cooling fans that you can control the speeds it cools, I found it still not cooling enough due to laying on the sheets of the bed. So I bought a folding USB fan and took an inexpensive large bamboo cutting board with the USB fan on it and put my laptop on top. This keeps everything stable for typing, allows enough space for cooling, in which I don't have to max out the speed of the internal cooling fans, and with the Roccat Taito Gaming Mousepad, I'm more than comfortable gaming while laying on the bed. For another $30-$40, I have a comfortable setup on the bed, and with my Logitech 5.1 speaker setup plugged into the 3.5 mini-headphone jack off my Sound Blaster Cinema, the sound is remarkable. Sound Blaster does have a bunch of new programs they use now, and all sound great, but I found that the original one, if you can get to work, works just fine, and changes the sound of my speaker setup immensely, sounding like a professional live studio. You can still find the X-530 speakers by Logitech. I bought a set used and still sounds great. Shop around and you can pick them up for $50-$60. I picked up my first set, new for $99. Their 2.1 setups also sound nice with the 6 or 8 inch sub.

One thing I never regretted...putting in a Steel Series Keyboard that has back lit LED's. Works great when trying to use your laptop at night.

Back to helping this noob build his first comp, though...

Your case is designed for a micro atx motherboard, but you bought a full sized atx motherboard.

It might fit... it probably won't.

You have 4 choices:

• 1) return the mobo and buy a micro atx motherboard.
  2) return the case and buy a full sized atx case.
  3) keep both, buy a micro atx mobo and a full sized atx case, so you can build 2 separate computers.
  4) use a mallet and/or duct tape. (My personal favorite option. Please record video footage if you do this)

I'm pretty sure the mobo will physically fit inside the case, but the mounting screw holes might not line up, and the i/o panel probably isn't the right shape.

Actually, you have a 5th option. Don't even use a case. Just mount your mobo on your computer desk or on the wall. I don't recommend this option if you have pets or children.

PS: If you are concerned that a smaller mobo won't pack as much of a punch as the full sized one, don't even worry about it.
The mini-ITX mobo in the custom gaming rig I built is smaller than the drivers CD that it shipped with. Yet I plugged a core i7, 16 GB of RAM, 256GB PCIx video card, and I haven't found a video game that slows it down, yet.

Oh, and in case your misery needs company, rest assured that the first time i attempted to build my own pc, i accidentally ordered a mobile cpu which of course was not compatible with my desktop mobo.
